The Booker for Short Stories?

The future is looking bright for the much-ignored genre of short fiction. Not only has there been the National Short Story Prize, but now there is The Edge Hill Prize for the Short Story. The prize is open for collections by a single author, and has had entries from big publishers as well as from independent publishers (such as our friends at Salt).

The judges from the competition include Ailsa Cox (Edge Hill University), Andrew Cant (indie bookshop Simply Books) and writer of both novels and short stories AL Kennedy (who we interviewed in Transmission #05).

The winner of the £5000 prize will be announced in a glitzy ceremony at The Royal Exchange in Manchester on 20th July 2007. We’ll keep you posted…
